Places to go with car hire Cape Town

There are plenty of places to go with car hire Cape Town. The great thing about renting a car is the freedom of coming and going as you please without being bound by schedules. It’s also a lot more affordable than expensive cabs. Car hire Cape Town is a good choice for a fulfilling, self-managed holiday.

Car hire Cape Town will take you to:

V&A Waterfront

If an upmarket shopping spree is what you’re after, the V&A Waterfront is where you want to be. There are a number of elegant shops, specialty stores and classy eateries in the mall. There’s also a festive outside area overlooking the harbour with restaurants, a craft market and live music.

Cape Town Beaches

The Atlantic coastline provides a collection of wonderful beaches. As with most city beaches, Cape Town’s shores are suited to a variety of sports and leisure activities. Whether you want to surf, swim, or sun yourself, do a little research and drive to a few beaches to see which ones work best for you.

Chapman’s Peak Drive

Chapman’s Peak Drive is a 9km stretch of road from Hout Bay to Noordhoek. The road is cut into the edge of the mountain and curves 114 times, all the while looking out over the Atlantic Ocean. The scenery is truly breathtaking and it’s worthwhile to take a camera along so you can stop to take in the beauty at one of the pull-off points.

Table Mountain

Park at the Table Mountain cableway and take the cable car up the mountain. If you love hiking, there’s also a hike to the top, but it takes a while! The cable cars not only have panoramic windows, but they rotate 360 degrees, so you get a good close up of the side of the mountain as well as a bird’s eye view of Cape Town! Enjoy walking the paths through the fynbos and the glorious view.

Robben Island

A visit to Robben Island will give you insight into what life was like for a political prisoner a few decades ago. Nelson Mandela spent 27 years on Robben Island before he was released, and now the island is a political museum offering riveting tours of the prison and its history. Park at the harbour and catch the ferry for your Robben Island tour.

Kirstenbosch

One of Cape Town’s most popular attractions is Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden. The garden is the size of a small farm and is for the most part wild, indigenous flora. 36 out of the 528 hectares of garden have been tended into a number of enchanting gardens:

  • Peninsula Garden
  • Water-wise Garden
  • Fragrance Garden
  • Medicinal Garden
  • The Dell
  • Protea Garden
  • Restio Garden
  • Useful Plants Garden
  • Van Riebeek’s Hedge

Wine routes

Constantia wine route

The picturesque Constantia Valley is a lovely place to tour. The estates along the route offer cellar tours, wine tastings, vineyard picnics and sumptuous restaurants. There are even luxury hotels, a spa and an 18 hole golf course if you feel like spoiling yourself!

  • The scenic Durbanville and Cape Point Wine Routes are also wonderful for a day out.

There are plenty of places to go and things to do in the Cape. Try car hire Cape Town for the ultimate convenience of managing your own holiday.
